I thought Vargas looked like garbage. But worst of all were Merchant and Lampley acting like he was sensational. Just a bunch of HBO homers. What would have happened if this was a little better fighter tonight let alone a Trinidad.

Can't wait to fade him when he faces a puncher. Joval controlled pretty much the whole fight and while Fernando clearly won a decision he won't beat anyone of world class caliber.

couldn`t agree more....even if you give him a pass for the layoff, there was talk he has trouble making 154.....??????.....he looked pudgy...his middle was thick....he`s 27....not 34....why can`t he make 154?....

i know a bad back is murder....but,he`s gonna get killed at 160...

maybe he should get back onto the juice......he made 154 with all that added muscle.....

he`ll be fighting the castiliejo`s....matt vanda`s....maybe even mayorga, who may have been the most overrated fighter of the decade....

there are a few dangerous guys, though, that will be avoided like the plague....ouma...keith holmes...travis simms....

really,though,the division is pretty weak...

if he were smart,he`d get in shape ...even at a lesser level, vargas could do well in a weak division.....if he gets in shape and stops trying to be a boxer...

that experiment will stop as soon as he gets in with a prolific offensive fighter....much like it will stop with gatti when he gets in with a legit jr welter...not a blown up lightweight...

maybe he is closer to 34 than 27 in boxing years do to the fact he has had many tough fights at such a young age. if he fights hand picked he should do well for awhile but how long does hbo put up with him fighting stiffs?

Vargas has beaten his body. He gave us some great monents in his short career. I didnt think he looked good since DLH. I would like to see him in at 154 against a big name. Make some money, and ride off into the sunset. By the way Spinch, Mayorga the most overrated fighter ever? Come on buddy. He may not be a great boxer, but he is a great fighter. I think that he can come back from that loss with the swagger, and hammer away in his next fight. I think he would beat Vargas at 154 too. Maybe even 160. We will see in his next fight though.
